Department of Experimental Medical Science

Welcome to the Department of Experimental Medical Science, EMV, at Lund University. Our mission is to perform molecular, cellular and integrative research at the highest international level and to train a new generation of successful scientists. We study biological processes that govern normal human bodily functions that are involved in disease pathogenesis. Several of our research environments have been recognized as outstanding both on the national and the European level.

Our department strives to stimulate our undergraduate students with our enthusiasm for research.

EMV wants to increase interest in both basic and applied science.

We expose the students to the most up-to-date teaching methods and prepare them for lifelong learning in their future careers.

EMV is located in the Biomedical Centre in Lund (BMC), next to the University Hospital (SUS) and at Medicon Village, and offers a superb setting, with a blend of clinical and non-clinical scientists.

We work continuously to create a good working environment with an efficient administration. All activities are characterized by democratic values, openness and critical thinking. Before important decisions are made issues are ventilated in the department's consultation groups for departmental representatives, doctoral students, younger researchers and technical and administrative staff. We regularly make efforts to reach out with information about our research to the surrounding community.

Organisation

In order to implement the department board's (institutionsstyrelsen) decisions and lead and distribute the ongoing work, there is a management group (ledningsgruppen) that consists of the Head of Department (prefekten), three Deputy Heads of Department (biträdande prefekter) and the Administrations Manager. The Head of Department is responsible for finances, personnel and the work environment.

The Section Manager meetings (sektionschefsmöten), with representatives from EMV's six sections, as well as the office staff, act as advisors. The group meets approximately two weeks before the department board meeting to discuss issues that will be brought up at the board meeting.
