Department of Translational Medicine

The Department of Translational Medicine is one of the six departments at Lund University's medical faculty. We conduct basic research in laboratory environment, patient-related and clinical research, and we also conduct epidemiological studies.

About the department

We are present in point-of-care environments in Skåne University Hospital in central Malmö. Parts of our organisation are located at the Clinical Research Centre (CRC) and the Wallenberg laboratory. CRC is a modern prize-winning facility for research, education and healthcare on the hospital campus in Malmö. Environments nearby are home to Malmö University and the Medeon research park.

We have a longstanding and thoroughly established presence in the university healthcare of Region Skåne and a close collaboration with other parts of Region Skåne (which is responsible for all public healthcare in Skåne).

The department offers research studies and participates in various ways in the faculty’s medical degree programme.

We cooperate with wider society through networks and collaborations, often with an interdisciplinary and interprofessional focus. Public authorities, county councils/regions, municipalities, the pharmaceutical industry and other private stakeholders in Sweden and internationally are part of our collaborative network.

Current research areas

The majority of our research is conducted in the following fields:

  • cancer
  • diagnostic imaging and radiation physics
  • blood, coagulation and immunology
  • infections and antibiotic resistance
  • hand surgery
  • kidney diseases
  • reproduction medicine

Organisation

The departmental board is the highest decision-making body, and is led by the head of the department. The head of department is also the manager of the department, supported by a management group.

The department’s research teams are organised directly under the head of department, with no intermediary levels.

The departmental office is a support and service function for the departmental management and for the organisation, with regard to human resources, finance and communication. The office works operationally on behalf of the head of department and the management group, which includes the head of the office.
